Introduction, Box Contents, The Unit

A big thanks goes to OCAU and Urban Digital Media (OCAU Sponsor) for sending me this ATV510b Enjoy TV with Linux-XBMC pre-installed (with included add-ons) to review. I actually won this as a prize in this OCAU thread but, despite being a very happy winner, my review will of course be completely impartial.

I have been looking for an ideal media streamer for many years now. The last big ticket media streamer I purchased was a Zensonic Z500 for over $500, reviewed here on OCAU. The Zensonic Z500 had a 166MHz processor and 32MB of ram. Let's see how the MyGica ATV510B Enjoy TV fares, with an 800MHz processor and 1GB of memory, 7 years later.

You can read the finer details on the official page, but in short the MyGica ATV510b is a Media streamer running the official Geniatech Linux XBMC (12.1 Frodo) so it boots directly into XBMC. XBMC is an extremely popular open-source media player, supporting virtually all video and music formats. This box provides hardware video decoding, 1080p playback, USB, network or internet streaming, 5.1 surround and Dolby Digital audio decoding. You can even control XBMC from your smartphone or tablet. UrbanDigital have it listed at $129 AUD.

My Gica ATV510B specs:
OS: Android 4.0
MEM: 1Gb DDR2
HDD: 4Gb Flash Memory
CPU: ARM Cortex A9 800Mhz
USB: 3x USB 2 ports
Wifi: Wifi 802.11 b/g/n
Display Out: HDMI 1.3
Network: RJ45
Power: 5V-2A

The box looks rather snazzy.

I am not noticing analogue or optical out for sound (to make it compatible with my amp).

Ready to turn on - the unit turns on as soon as the power is connected, no need to press the power button. You will need 2x AAA batteries for the remote (not included).

The unit booted in seconds. The text in the menu looks a little pixely. I checked the output and it was 1920x1080 (1080p).
